A harvest-drop platform for a working farm

Design and build of a harvest-drop shop for a small mushroom farm, from the storefront and text alerts to the admin the whole operation runs on.

Merrimack Mushroom Co.: A harvest-drop platform for a working farm

The challenge

A mushroom farm doesn't have inventory, it has harvests. Whatever comes off the blocks that week gets weighed and packed, and once it sells out there's nothing behind it until the next flush. Most e-commerce assumes a warehouse. Merrimack Mushroom Co. needed something closer to a box office, run by one person who also has a farm to work.

What we did

We designed and built the whole thing on Next.js and Supabase. Subscribers hear about a drop by email or text, reserve their packs, and pay by card through Stripe or with cash at the farm. Venmo and cash land in the same ledger as the card payments, so nothing gets reconciled twice. The admin covers the rest of the operator's week, from composing the next drop to planning delivery routes, and the SMS side takes consent seriously because a farm can't afford to text anyone who didn't ask.

  • Live drops with per-pack reservations
  • Card, cash, and Venmo in one ledger
  • Harvest alerts by text and email, consent included
  • Local delivery quotes and route planning
  • One admin for the whole operation

Why it matters

We build a farm stand's software with the same care as an insurer's. Payment states fail closed, and consent records are kept the way carriers require. When a drop sells out in an afternoon, the operator watches the orders land instead of chasing them through a spreadsheet.
